The Beautiful Souls is a site-specific exploration of perception and ideology, and the fragility in their interpretation. It questions how we anticipate and prescribe meaning in relation to one another, and the politics therein. From sunset into night, the audience is immersed in a sensorial choreography invoked by 25 performers interspersed among them. It is a subversive journey of togetherness that explores the tensions of desire and power that form social bonds and the imaginary structures of social reality. The viewer is invited to contemplate inherent contradictions within societies—between order and disorder, conformity and dissent, solidarity and exclusion, codependence and antagonism, freedom and subjugation, domination and submission, exhaustion and liberation.
